  • RE: Hong Kong Double Tax Treaty

Thank you. I have read the guidance and have read the UK Hong Kong Double Tax Treaty but it is not clear to me and would please ask for your confirmation. As I mentioned above, I will satisfy the requirements of Article 14 of the Double Tax Treaty and my income therefore won't b taxed in the UK. What I can't see from any guidance or the treaty is whether I am permitted to travel back and visit the UK for a one week holiday during the period of my employment in Hong Kong?
  • Hong Kong Double Tax Treaty

I am currently in Hong Kong and only paying tax in Hong Kong due to satisfying the requirements of the Double Tax Treaty. Please could anyone advise whether I am allowed to re-enter the UK and spend two weeks at home for the Christmas period? I wouldn't be doing an work in the UK during that period and would continue to be employed by my Hong Kong employer? Would this period outside of Hong Kong not be counted towards the period I am in Hong Kong? Thank you
  • RE: Income Tax when returning to UK from Hong Kong

Thank you. What would the position be if my salary is paid by my UK employer in GBP into my Uk bank account but I will be working and living in Hong Kong from September to March. Would I pay UK income tax or Hong Kong tax for the period while I am in Hong Kong (7 months)?
  • Income Tax when returning to UK from Hong Kong

Hi For tax year 2023-2024 I was in the UK for the whole tax year. This year I am going to be working in Hong Kong from September 2024 to March 2025. Whilst in Hong Kong I will be paid in Hong Kong dollars on the payroll of my UK employer's Hong Kong office. I was told that before leaving Hong Kong I will have to go and pay tax to the Hong Kong Authorities. Under the double tax treaty, will I only pay tax in Hong Kong? My concern is that I also get taxed by the UK when I return. Many thanks
