Afternoon HMRC team, I've got "Tax calculation for the year 6 April 2023 to 5 April 2024" email this morning and have a question please. It reads that "HMRC owes" me a certain amount of money because I've paid more tax than I should. However, below there is a note saying "Benefits in kind: You only paid tax on £0.00 of your benefits in kind, but you should have paid tax on the actual amount of £XXX.XX. Does it mean I should pay you this tax? Could you please clarify it for me? Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Phil.

Hi,
Benefits in kind are taxable benefits provided to you by your employer.
They are where possible taxed at source by reducing you tax free allowance in your tax code by the amount provided to you.
If you have received a tax calculation showing you are owed tax back.
The calculation should advise how this can be claimed. Further information for your this can be found in your personal tax account: Personal tax account: sign in or set up
Thankyou.
