Hello, I had to do a self assessment last year but I thought I wouldn't need to do one this year as my total income has dropped below GBP 100k (as confirmed by my accoutant). I have no other revenue sources and have generated around 20£ of gross interest on my bank accounts. I nevertheless received a text msg from 60263 on Nov 15th and today again indicating "HMRC: please go and do your tax return online and pay by 31 Jan. To find help and support search GOV UK' Help Online for Self-Assessment'. Already done, thank you" Could you please confirm if a self assessment is needed for the year or if the text message was autogenerated based on the fact that I did it last year? Many thanks

Hi

If you think that you no longer need to file a Self Assessment return, you need to inform us of this, in order for us to correctly close down your SA record.
You can check to see if you still need to complete an SA return here - Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return
This will then confirm to us that we need to close your Self Assessment record.

Thank you
