Hello. I am starting my first employment with a UK-based company and I am currently residing in the UK. I was asked by my employer to complete the HMRC starter checklist. I am wondering about providing info under the last and first name columns HMRC starter checklist. I do not have a last name in my Indian passport and in my UK BRP, my last name is mentioned as a single line. How do I fill the last and first name columns in the HMRC starter checklist? Any guidance will be helpful.

Hi,

If you have registered for a National Insurance number then how this has been noted would be the information we would require. If not, how will your employer be noting you on their systems, will they be using a first name/surname? If so, you should use the same format as that so when they provide us your pay and tax information it will link up. You can see information here:

Apply for a National Insurance number

Thank you.

Good morning, I have received an email to say that the personal information for a new employee is incorrect? I have checked and the info was taken from his P45 and also new starter list. All of the information I hold matches the P45 - so I am confused as to why this is saying it is incorrect?

Hi Jackie Hollick,
The new employee can check the information we hold and compare it to the P45 in their Personal Tax Account (PTA) which can be accessed through the HMRC App.
If they don’t have this then they could set one up or call us.
All options are available at: Income Tax: general enquiries
Thank you
