Hello, I ended my employment with my previous employer on 19.07.24 and started my new job on the Monday after (22.07.24). I still haven't had my P45 from my previous employer so completed a HMRC starter checklist and sent this to my new employer instead. I have been paid by my new employer and my tax code appears to be unchanged from my previous employment and therefore correct. Do I still need to send my P45 to my new employer when I eventually receive it?

Hi,
This can happen when you start and leave a job in the same month, it maybe that your new employer is operating the 1257l W1/X code which does not take account of any earnings you have had prior to starting your employment.
You should still pay the correct level of tax per month on this code going forward, but there is a possiblilty if both empoyers used the same code in July, that you will have had duplicate tax free allowance that month, so may have a shortfall of tax at the end of the tax year.
This will be reviewed automtaically by our systems so you would not have too do anything futher.
