Hi Antoinette,
Yes it is the responsibility of the individual to make sure we have the correct level of incomes set against thier tax code, we do receive certain pay information from the employers also be it RTI/P60 information at the end of the tax year, but this may not be available at the latest tax code for the year has been issued.
So it should be checked by the individual.
Tell HMRC about a change to your personal details
Thank you.

Hi Gianpaolo,
You can update your estimated income in your online account by selecting the PAYE tile, then select 'check current tax year' to display current employer details.
Select ‘view or update employment details’ on the left side of the page, then select ‘update your estimated income’.
Alternatively, you can contact our Income Tax team via
Income Tax: general enquiries
Thank you.

Hello, I need clarification, please. By the end of the tax year on the 5th of April 2025 will the income for the year be reviewed based on the amount received in the account or estimated tax income? I did several part-time agency jobs last tax year which put me in negative. I didn't do them this year, so I was not paid by them, but I forgot to get P45 from some of them. I hope my review will be based on the money earned

Hello, at the end of the tax year my company pays a bonus based on performance. This bonus is never guaranteed, on a good year it can significantly affect my annual income. For the past 2 years I've ended up with an outstanding income tax bill. I recently spoke to HMRC who told me that I should update my estimated income to help prevent a nasty bill landing. My question is if I update my estimated income will the cost of estimated additional income tax be taken from my pay from the final 2 months of the tax year or would that additional income tax be spread over the following tax year?
