Hello, I have received a tax return cheque, but I'm currently living outside the UK so I'm unable to physically collect it. I also don't have a UK bank account to deposit this cheque. I'm wondering if there's a process that would allow me to send this cheque back and request the cheque's amount to be directly transferred to my friend's bank account in the UK without her needing to interact with the bank or another entity in person, i.e. without her receiving a replacement cheque? Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hi Kot,
The cheque can be sent to a nominee on your behalf.
You will need to write to HMRC with the nominees name and address.
The address to send the letter to is
Pay As You Earn and Self Assessment, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1AS, United Kingdom.
Thank you.

I have the same issue; do I need to send back the original cheque with the letter? Do you need my NINO or any other of my details on the letter? Thanks for your help

Hi,
If you still have the original cheque, please enclose it with your covering letter. Your letter should include your name, address, date of birth and national insurance number and / or UTR, along with the name and address of the individual you would like us to reissue your cheque to.
Thank you
