Hello, I recently moved over to London on the 27/08/2023 and have been working remotely for an Australian company since the 01/09/2023. It has now come time to do my tax and I am slightly confused on how the process works. I know I must determine my tax residency and complete both a UK self assessment return as well as file my Australian tax return. From what I can tell, I will be classed as a UK tax resident due to the 183 days test. Does this mean I should do my Australian tax return saying I'm not an Australian tax resident? Or could it also mean my residency status changes after those 183 days and I may be considered a tax resident in both places? Any advice is helpful, thanks.

Hi,
HMRC cannot advise you on your residence or the completion of another countries tax returns.

Thank you.
