Hello I am retired in Asia and got a tax refund on my private pension unfortunately by cheque. They will not accept cheques here in the local banking system but I do have a Wise sterling account will they wire the monies into this as I dont have a UK bank account. Thanks for your help with this.

Hi I have exactly the same problem as the member of this site ‘Colin C’ who posted from Asia over 3 months ago. I live in France and received a cheque in Sterling which, because of Brexit, no French bank will accept. After instructions by phone from the HMRC helpline, I returned the cheque by registered post on the 4th June 2024 asking for an electronic transfer of the refund to my UK WISE account. To date 13th August there has been no action on my request and no acknowledgment of receipt. I know, after the experience of submitting the ‘Double Taxation’ refund application, that currently it takes a quite a number of weeks to get processed. Surely in this day and age a simple email acknowledgment of receipt and estimated time frame would go a long way with customer satisfaction.
