Hello, I really need help with this. I worked for a couple of months in France last year. My gross aggregate pay was approx 2500 euros, but there were almost 500 euros deductions for french social charges. Tax was 16 euros. My question is, what do I need to report on my UK self assessment as income. Is it the gross pay, or the pay net of french social charges?, or do the french social charges count as tax paid? It is all really confusing and I have scoured the internet for an answer with no result and also read the 'foreign notes' guidance. I am trying to do the right thing as my UK income for the year was close to the personal allowance. Thank you in advance for any help and guidance you can give me.

Hi

French social taxes are not an allowable expense so it is the gross pay that you decalre, converted to sterling, and then claim foreign tax credit relief for the French income tax that has been deducted. again, converted to sterling.

Thank you
