Hi I have been told “The code 196T means you can earn £1960 over the tax year at that employment before you pay tax.” Yet I’m being taxed so much (£80) so only taking £330 home.

Hi Greenmoney,
If you are paid weekly then on the code £196T you can earn £38 before tax with the balance at 20%.
If you think you are paying more tax then expected if you contact HMRC we can check this for you.
