I have been informed that I owe £3,900 in self-assessment. This was a slightly unexpected figure for me and I would prefer not to have to pay it all in one chunk. If the amount is under £3,000 and you submit your SA before 30th December, then usually HMRC allow you to repay the tax via your tax code in the following year. Please could someone tell me whether it is possible to pay £900 (now) and then for the remainder to be collected via my tax code, or does the fact it is over £3,900 automatically mean this is not possible?

Hi Gary Francis,
No. the ability to pay in your tax code is based on the overall charge and as you are over this, you will need to pay direct. you can set up a payment plan -
Pay your Self Assessment tax bill
Thank you.
