Hi HMRC, I am a tax resident but I have only been in UK for 7 months in tax year 2023-2024. Yet, my employer deduced the tax (basic rate) from my salary as if I worked for the whole tax year. I don't have other full time job. May I know:- (1) Do I need to fill in the SA102? (2) The tax is over-charged and may I know how to claim the overcharged tax? Thanks a lot. Ed

Hi Ed,
You would only need to submit a SA102 if you meet Self Assessment criteria.
You can check at Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return. If you do not meet the criteria then your record will be reviewed after the tax year end once all your PAYE pay and tax details are received. Once reviewed if overpaid you will receive a calcultion with the details.
If you want to check if reviewed you can contact HMRC Income Tax: general enquiries.
Thank you.
