I received my tax calculation for 2022 - 2023 this week. The refund is less than I thought because of “plus other adjustments”. My P800 acknowledges my income was less that my personal allowance. It includes a figure for “charitable donations”. I don’t know how this figure is collected but the adjustment seems to be 25% of the donations quoted. It could of course be coincidental? I thought that as long as I didn’t register for gift aid there would be nothing for me pay HMRC. I have 4 specific questions: 1. How do I get a breakdown of the donations and the other adjustments? 2. How is donation data collected? My wife, unlike me, is a tax payer and has made gift aid donations. It is likely that she might have asked me to use my card to make online donations because she doesn’t feel safe with online payments. We always took care to make sure that the donation is from her. 3. Could these payments have been attributed to me? If so do I have any chance of successfully challenging that? 4. We now have joint accounts. How does that effect future P800 calculations. Many thanks for your help?

Hi SofTimps

We woulds need to access your record to check on the gift aid details. If incorrect the P800 can be amended.
If you have a joint account then you would be reviewed on 50% of the savings interest.
You can contact HMRC at Income Tax: general enquiries

Thank you
