Hi, I’ve checked my tax code and it’s been reduced for untaxed interest on savings and investments. I assumed I got £1000 allowance (I earn over £17k and I am in the 20% tax bracket) and I’ve nowhere saved anything to even get £250 worth of interest let alone £1000, is there other things factored into this? I do tend to ditch and switch to different banks with cash incentives would this be counting towards the £1000. Also do hmrc have webchat? I can never seem to get a person rather than the bot. I will call if I need to but thought I’d post here to see if anybody can help first.

Hi David Hill,

The cash incentives are not reported by banks, the allowances are only for interest.
You can use the 'Ask HMRC online' link.
After you have asked a question you can type 'speak to an adviser' and you will be transferred to an adviser if there are any available.
