I am a full-time student and I am not doing any part-time job. A year ago I came to the UK via student visa while I applied for the BNO visa in June 2023. Since my parent will transmit money for my living, do I need to pay tax in this case?

Hi Jeff250,
There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here:
Tax on savings interest
and
Tax on dividends
Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. But I am not asking about cash gifts. Did you reply to the wrong person?

Hi

My colleague's answer is correct.
If your parents are sending your money to live on, then this is considered a cash gift and there are no income tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here
Tax on savings interest: How much tax you pay and Tax on dividends: How dividends are taxed

Thank you
