I recently took out my SIPP and was charged with emergency tax. I have submitted all the necessary forms and self-assessment. I am a Singapore resident, left the UK in 2012. How long does the HMRC take to process my refund?

I have been away from the UK for over 20 years and i cashed in a small pension that was sitting doing nothing 63k GBP. I was taxed 27k GBP before being paid out the balance by the pension provider, i also received a P45 with tax code showing as 0T. I submitted a R43 form claiming this back but its over 3 months now and i have heard nothing. Should i have received this refund by now ?

Hi, I am a tax resident of Australia for the past 20 years plus and I started to claim my ex-employer pension and I received a lump sum back payment for £52,000 with £22,000.00 tax deducted. I have submitted the Form DT Individual Form (with supporting Australian Tax Residence) to claim the full repayment of this tax amount to myself in order for it to be assessed under my Australian tax position. My understanding is that any UK Income Tax deducted from a pension or annuity payment, can be repaid to me in full and also a NT tax code will apply to any future pension payments from this pension provider. Can you please confirm this and also confirm the average processing time for a UK tax refund to be made once you receive the Form DT Individual Form. Thank you

Hi ,

You will need to complete a Double Taxation Claim form depending on where you live - see the following example -

Double Taxation: Treaty Relief (Form DT-Individual)   .

Thank you .

Hi RK2025,
If eligable, yes an NT code will be issued for future payments.
As you have not stated when the form was submitted, I cannot give you a timescale as to when it will be processed.
Thank you.
