I know that if you earn over £100,000 you lose the ability to claim tax free childcare. But what happens to the existing balances in the childcare account at that point? Can they still be used to pay for childcare, but without being able to add new amounts? Or are they refunded or lost?

They said that once you are no longer eligible, all the HMRC top ups within the account would be taken out. You would be left with just what you had paid in, and could use that to pay for childcare or could withdraw it.
