My wife died on 7/11/2022. She had been receiving an Irish State Pension. I applied for a Widower's State pension and received confirmation on 03/07/2023 that the application was successful and I was entitled to a pension from 23/12/2022. On 30/06/2023 I received arrears of £2623.14 into my Bank A/c. A portion of this arrears obviously relates to the period between 23/12/22 and 05/04/23. I am currently completing a 2022-2023 Self Assessment for myself and I'm unsure how much, if any, has to be declared in the current Tax Return.

The arrears were paid in 23/24 tax year and should be included in the 23/24 tax return available after 5 April 2024.
