Hello HMRC Team, I have a query regarding a recent exit payment I received for my premature exit of my prior membership in a partnership (which is outside the U.K.), which I exited before relocating to and becoming a tax resident in the U.K. The payment was originally due upon my exit from the partnership, which occurred before my move to the U.K. However, the exit payment was only made recently while I was a U.K. resident. I would like to inquire whether there are any U.K. taxes applicable to this delayed exit payment? It's important to note that this payment is directly related to my membership and exit from the partnership, which occurred prior to my relocation to and tax residency in the U.K. Thank you for your assistance and guidance in this matter.

Hi,

This would depend on the country the payment is from and any tax treaty in force:

Tax treaties

Thank you.
