Hi, I am in the process of setting up my start-up as a sole trader. As, like many people, I am working a full time job in conjunction with starting up my company I am a little stuck with how to instruct this on my application. Under "Are you working for one person or firm only?" would I need to put Yes? As I am still employed by a company as a full-time worker, even though it is not related to my own start up business? I am just a little confused and don't want to get this wrong! any help that you can give would be appreciated!

Hi
This question relates to your self employment status and not your PAYE employment.
As working for yourself answer yes.

Hello, this is a bit confusing. I thought this question is related to freelancers. E.g. sole trader engineer working for one engineering company doing engineering work should answer yes. I think the OP did not clarify whether he just becomes a sole trader offering his services to his employer as a sole trader or if his start-up is unrelated to his employment work. I start a business doing X activity. I am also employed doing Y activity as a PAYE employee. I should answer No. Correct? Other example: I start a YouTube channel and I start getting paid by Google, i also receive income from affiliate links via Amazon and other affiliates, what should I answer? Third example: Currently I am getting paid only by Google, but I am also pursuing other income sources. What do I answer? Thanks.

Hi gorillaki,
If you are working for yourself you are self employed - What a sole trader is.
Thank you.
