Hi there, Hope all is well. - I resigned from my full-employed job in May2024, for which I already have a Self Assessment account for the past 7 years, with a UTR number. - Now I want to register as a sole trader. Do I need to open another Government Gateway account, and another Self Assessment account with a new UTR, in order to register as a sole trader? I tried to register another Self Assement account as a sole trader. However, when I put my personal information, it said I ready have a UTR, and I should register with my Self Assessment account associated with my UTR. - I also tried to register as a sole trader using my exisiting Self Assessment - it said I have to register with a new Self Assessment account. Please suggest the correct way to register as a sole trader, for the case that people had been full employed before with UTR and self assessment account already. Thanks,

Hi,
You should be able to register for Self Employment with your existing UTR here - Check how to register for Self Assessment .
Alternatively, you can use the CWF1 form, or by contacting us by webchat or phone via Self Assessment: general enquiries .
Thank you.
