Dear HMRC help, In my 2023/24 self assessment I made a EIS loss claim against my 2022/23 income (box 43 & 44). However the final calculation does not account for this claim and I do not have an option to claim a refund for overpaid 2022/23 income tax. Could you please help? Thank you Julien P.S. there are thousands of threads on this forum but there are no search feature so it is difficult to check if this question has been asked before

Hi Julien Go to the final page in the Tax Calculation summary, Adjustments to Tax Due section, and fill in box 15 with the amount of refund due being the box 43/44 amount at the applicable tax rate. Then on the View Your Calculation page you should find the full tax calculation for 2023/24, coming down to a figure for income tax under/overpaid, which will exclude the effect of boxes 43/44 as they relate to 2022/23. Underneath that you should have a second figure which is net of the refund due for 2022/23. Also, you should find the Search facility at the top left of the forum screen alongside Home and Help! John

Thank you John, this worked. I have resubmitted my return with the suggested change and my tax calculation now shows the expected amounts. Noted about the search feature. Thank you, Julien

Hi,
You can see guidance below, and in particular the section "How and when to claim relief":
HS286 Negligible value claims and Income Tax losses on disposals of shares you have subscribed for in qualifying trading companies (2024)
Thank you.
