I was late filing my self-assessment return for 2021-22 (the first since around 2003). I have a UTR but because this is effectively my first self-assessment I can't seem to file a late return online - can you advise? The reason I was late is that my father died just before the deadline (21st December). I did try to fill it out in March but didn't do it in the time allowed and was logged out with all info lost (I have an ADHD diagnosis.) Can you advise how to ask if this can be taken into account? Finally, I have now been taxed at emergency rate on the settlement of my father's pension - can you advise how to claim a reimbursement and whether the return will need to have been submitted before I can do so? Thank you in advance!

Hi kwill1000,

You can file returns from 19/20 - 22/23 on the online account.
You will need to check with our Self Assessment department if the return has been requested.
Please see Tax on a private pension you inherit.

Thank you.
