I moved away in 2011 and prior to that was working for a few years part time only whilst I was in university, so never worked full time. I am still overseas so applied for the voluntary National Insurance contributions. They have gotten back to me through the app that my yearly contributions are £824.20 each year, from 2011 onwards The covid years 2020 =£795.6 and 2021 =£800.80 then back to £824.20 again from 2022 I have never been back to Scotland for work since I left in 2011. when I was working part time in Edinburgh during uni the contributions they have listed for me to pay are £1xx, and then £500 in my last year of working (2010-2011). Is this standard 824.20 amount right? I will call and check but also hard to do with the timezone difference. My husband on the other hand is quoted £1xx per year only, whereas mine is 8x that amount. Thanks Christina

Hi,
The higher amounts are the voluntary class 3 rates for full tax years.
The lower amounts could be part years at the voluntary class 3 rate, or the voluntary class 2 rate.
Without looking at your records and your application I am unable to confirm if the correct rates have been quoted.
If you think that you have been quoted to pay at the wrong rates, you will need to contact the National Insurance contributions helpline to discuss this with an advisor.
Further information regarding which rates of voluntary National Insurance contributions you can pay whilst abroad can be found here - Guidance on Social Security abroad: NI38
Thank you.
