Hello, I filled in form 17 (Declare beneficial interests in joint property and income) last month and signed and sent it first class and haven't received any kind of acknowledgment. Would I expect an acknowledgement? And, if so, how long would it generally take? I'm not sure if I should re-post it or not. I did forget to post the transfer deed that showed I owned 99% of the property at the same time but thought they would be in contact if the evidence was not sufficient. Is there anyway to send it again online? Do I need to wait for an acknowledgment before completing my self assessment or can I continue and send it in before? I don't want to get in trouble or mess up the numbers if they are assuming I am claiming for 50% instead off 99%. Anyone with experience, I would appreciate it, thanks.

Hi ,

We do not acknowledge paper post.

The Form 17 has to be printed and posted.

You can track any online tax forms through a personal tax account.

We cannot accept your Form 17 without evidence such as a deed of trust.

There are long postal backlogs for technical work possibly up to 12 months.

Please send in another Form 17 with a Deed of Trust.

Please then wait about 2 weeks and then phone us to make sure that we have scanned in your post and it is in the correct postal queue.

Please declare on your tax return the amount of income from property that matches the split on your Form 17.

The split is from the latest date that you signed the Form 17.

The guidance is here:

TSEM9860 - Property held jointly by married couples or civil partners: Form 17 rule - when declaration takes effect: normal case   .

Thank you .
