Hello, I am planning to leave the UK in 16 Jan 2024 for few years. I have completed the Self Assessment for 2022/2023. In the normal practice, I have to fill the Self Assessment forms together with SA109 for 2023/2024 in between 6 April 2023 to 15 Jan2024 and return the forms by 31 Oct 2024. However, how can I inform MHRC on my leave immediately in such my case? 1. By means of the P85 online form, is it okay for me? 2. Or, Wait until the Self Assessment 2023/2024 opens, and then fill all the Self Assessment forms (include SA109) to inform HMRC ? Would you please advise? Thank you.

Hi

Have a look at the P85 guidance at Get your Income Tax right if you're leaving the UK (P85), which advises how to proceed.

Thank you

Thanks for the link. Just to be clarified… does it mean that I can fill the P85 online form on the day I leave the UK (16 Jan 2024) and then return my Self Assessment (period 6 April 2023 - 15 Jan 2024) to HMRC when the reporting period is opened?? In such case, Is the SA109 needed when I submit the Self Assessment?? Thank you.

What is the address of the HMRC Office where the P85 form should be sent ?

Hi plky

As you will be completing a tax return, any refund due would be based on that rather than the P85. The SA109 will be required if you are claiming split year treatment.

Thank you
