If I am a single person in a 2 bedroom flat, what am I entitled to? I am under 35 but I am exempt from the shared accommodation rate due to domestic abuse. I live with one other non-dependent. Does this mean I would be entitled to 2 bedroom LHA (minus the non-dependent contribution being deducted) or will I only get 1 bedroom LHA as a single person?

Universal Credit housing entitlement helps with housing costs, including rent, mortgage interest, and service charges. The amount you get depends on your income, household circumstances, and local housing allowance rates. It's crucial to keep your claim updated with any changes in your living situation to ensure accurate payments.

Hi A.h97, Regarding your inquiry for Universal Credit Housing Element. Due to the circumstances you explained, since October 1 2022 those who meet certain exemption criteria are eligible to claim for a 1 bedroom home, the amount is set by your local authority under their LHA rates for this financial year. The fact you live in a 2 bedroom with a non-dependent means you are still only entitled to claim for 1 bedroom, and your housemate can do the same (dependent on their age and circumstances). Your best bet is to figure out how much half of the rent is and pay and equal share from your Housing Element. For more specific advice speak to your work coach at your local Jobcentre office or post a note on your journal for your case manager to review. You can do this at gov.uk/universal-credit. I hope this helps.
