My mum gave birth to my brother in august 1962 and my younger brother in February 1970, leaving school in 1986. Apparently she has only 7 full years of national insurance contributions. Wouldn’t her NI been paid while she was receiving child benefit during this time?

Hi,
This all depends whether your mother reached State pension age before or after 6th April 2010.
If your mother reached State pension age before 6th April 2010 she would not of received any credits for Child Benefit.
She would have a period of Home Responsibilities Protection from 1978 (the year HRP was introduced)
However how HRP worked for customers who reached SPA before 6th April 2010 was by reducing the number of qualifying years needed for a full basic State Pension, they did not receive any credits.
Only customers who reached State Pension age after 6th April 2010 would have received National Insurance credits for receiving Child Benefit after 1978 from when their child was born up until they turned 16 years of age.
Thank you.
