If I have claimed a tax rebate am I able to apply for New Job Seekers allowance? The reason I ask is because conversely if I am claiming New Job Seekers Allowance I cannot claim a tax rebate (using this link) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-back-income-tax-when-youve-stopped-working

Sorry, we can only answer HMRC questions on this forum.

Please contact the DWP for advice.

Thank you.

I am sorry if I sound stupid but is this not an HMRC issue? After all the link leads me to an HMRC page and I am questioning the P50 document specifically.

Thanks for the clarification. Just to confirm, if someone is claiming a tax rebate, can they still apply for New Job Seekers Allowance, or do they need to check with the DWP for specific eligibility rules?

Hi
You cannot claim for a tax rebate if you have a continuing source of taxable income.
Jobseekers Allowance is classed as a continuing source of income and a taxable benefit.
If you stop claiming Jobseekers Allowance before the end of the tax year, then you may receive any refund you are entitled to.
Please see: Claim back Income Tax when you've stopped working (P50).
Thank you
