Good evening, In April 2022, my wife and I were eligible for tax credits (around £60 per week). I was the only person working. In December 2022 our circumstances changed and my wife started working too, which we reported. We have now received an invoice for overpayment. Do we have to repay all the tax credit received between 2022 and 2023 or only since our circumstances changed-Dec2022? Thank you so much

Hi,

The amount owed will be on the notification. You can contact our Tax Credits team for an explanation of how the overpayment came about.

Thank you.

Hi I have just received a letter saying I owe £1500 from 2004/5! This is the first I have heard of it. I am a pensioner now. I have tried to ring both the payment helpline and the tax credit helpline but no one answers. I can’t see why you have decided to pursue or even if it’s correct. What do I do? I can’t get hold of anyone.

Hi Alison Griffin,
We are unable to provide advice on anindividual basis as we do not have access to records.
The only option is to call the Helpline for advice, I understand this is frustrating for you but your records need to be viewed to enable the answers you require.
Thank you.
