Hi I am registered for self assesment/UTR and VAT registered. I have recently started a new job, being paid through PAYE. The new job requires a substantial new investment on a different set of tools used in my previous trade. Am I able to claim the input VAT on the these tool purchases? I will also be using these tools, for sole trader jobs I do outside of my PAYE employment, for which a invoice with output VAT would be raised.

Hi,
Please see the conditions below for treating any VAT incurred as input tax for your business:
10. Introduction to input tax
32. Apportionment of tax between business and non-business activities
Thank you.
