Application made September 2023. I kid not. Have VRS reference but nothing else received. Company changed name shortly after application submitted and also registered office and trading address (not uncommon as this was a "shelf" company from solicitors and was also a vehicle to buy part of a failed business from Liquidators). Is there a telephone number to speak to someone in BT&C VAT Registrations - am recently appointed FD of the business trying to sort this out and my e-mails are being met with a brick wall and suggestions of appoint an agent who they will talk to. Slight problem there - what VAT Reg'n number do I specify please? Please can I talk to a human being who has access to the file, and not just the VAT Helpline who just take messages? Thank you

Hi,
We are sorry for the issues you are experiencing.
If you have changed your address during the application progress then it is possible that the Registration Unit have created a VAT number and sent it to your previous address.
It is also possible that we needed to verify some information during the Registration prrocess and  again we would have sent a letter to the old address.In this scenario we would have likely closed the application off if there was no response.
If you contact our Helpline on 03002003700 and provide us with the initial postcode used on the application then we can find the VAT number if it has been created.
We would only be able to send it out to the original address however, we would also recommend emailing our Registration Unit on vrs.newregistrations@hmrc.gov.uk quoting your VRS reference and ask for an update on what is happening with this application
