Interest generated in foreign bank
Hello there, I have a fund in offshore Australia bank and I will have interest generated in Fixed rate time/term deposit saving account. Australia government will tax that interest for such deposit once it is finished. So, I would like to clarify whether I have to count that interest as my income in the UK if I will not make remittance of both the fund and interest to the UK? In case I am a taxable UK resident. If I pay tax for the UK again, whether it will be counted as double taxation for such interest (income)? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you. -
RE: Clarification for employed / self-employed / unemployed for split year tax application
Thank you for your reply! Then I have some follow up questions as below: Counting from my first arrival to the UK to the date, 05 April 2024, I had been to UK less than a month. Meanwhile, I have not been the UK before March 2024. So, I would like to ask whether I need to have self assessment for the tax year of 2023-2024? And then am I need to apply for split year treatment to separate the saving income between Hong Kong and the UK for the tax year of 2023-2024? Thank you! -
Clarification for employed / self-employed / unemployed for split year tax application
Hi there, I am from Hong Kong and arrived UK for living in March 2024, and my income is only from the bank saving interest at the moment. Hence, would you please help to advise on the question? Q: I'm going to apply split year tax for the taxation in 2023-2024, but in the webpage of self assessment, it appears only employed or self-employed to be selected. For my case, I should be literally unemployed? Or I can choose self-employed? Thank you! -
BNO Visa holder - Am I eligible to apply for Council Tax discount for Single Person
Hi there, I would like to ask whether I will be eligible to get a 25% Single Person Discount off my Council Tax bill? Because I've been the UK for living through BNO visa and have been living in the current property with myself only. Especially, I would like to know if there is any conflict with the BNO visa holder to get that discount. Thanks!
