Declaring incomes from inheritance: SA107 (R185) and SA106
Hi, My mother passed away in 2023. She left me under her will: (A) 1/3 of her foreign stocks (devise and bequest) and (B) 2/5 of her residuary estate (residuary) that are mainly savings under her bank accounts. I have read from the SA107 form that it is for reporting income from the “residue” of the estate of a deceased person for each year during the administration. As such, am I right that: 1) For dividend: I understand that I am treated as if I had owned 1/3 of my mother’s stocks from the date of my mother passed away. I have added all the dividends for my 1/3 share of my mother's stocks for tax year 2023/2024 (all dividends for tax year 2023/2024 were accrued during the administration period). May I ask where I should enter this figure, whether as a dividend income under SA106 or report through SA107? 2) For residuary estate: Am I right that, the interest incomes derived from my mother's savings during the administration period (within tax year 2023/2024) should be reported under SA107? Thanks in advance for your help! -
Rental and dividend incomes
Dear Sir/Madam My mother passed away in Feb/2023 and she never resided in the UK. According to my mother’s will, my sister (also the executor) is entitled solely (100%) to her rental property (“Flat A”) in Hong Kong. During the administration period, tenant of Flat A was still paying monthly rents to my mother’s bank account in Hong Kong. After the probate was granted and we were able to access/distribute the funds in my mother’s bank account abovementioned, my sister transferred me some rents from Flat A (as a gift). May I ask if the rents from Flat A that were given to me by my sister is counted as my taxable income and be reported through SA107? Separately, I recently found out that I was mistakenly given more dividends, which were accrued during the administration period, than what I was entitled to based on the number of stocks that my mother had left me under her will. The excess dividends were sent to me in Oct/2023 and I have already returned them in Sept/2024. May I ask if the excess amount that I received in Oct/2023 is counted as my taxable income for tax year 2023/2024, in addition to my fair share of dividend incomes? Thanks in advance for your time! Rental income and Estate management fees
Hi, I have a rental flat, which I have to pay estate management fees on a monthly basis. Such fees is paid by flat owners to cover the expenses for maintaining and managing the buildings/complex (e.g., hiring of porter, cleaning, utilities for public areas, regular maintenance of the lifts, etc). May I ask if such estate management fees is tax deductible against rental income? Thanks in advance for your help! Eric
