RE: Self Assessment and "payments on account" already made
Hello, is this still the case for self assessments of the tax year 23-24? How long does it take once we've submitted our tax return for the previous payments on account to be recognised and the new sum deduced? -
Self Assessment and "payments on account" already made
Hello: I'm doing my self assessment myself after using an accountant for the past couple years. After the self assessment for 21-22, I made two payments for the 22-23 tax year in the past 12 months. I can see the amounts in "View account" - "Tax years" for the 22-23 tax year. HOWEVER, when I do my assessment, it shows the amount I owe and there's no reference to the amount I have already paid. The amount I am told I owe does not seem to take into account what I've already paid. I do not want to submit my assessment until I understand how the amount calculated on my self assessment relates to what I have already paid. Does the self assessment show what I've already paid in and I am just not noticing it? Or does the amount I've paid already only apply to the self assessment amount once I've submitted my return. Many thanks in advance for any clarifications.
