RE: Unknown employer in HMRC account
Hello, I've also had the same issue where someone has incorrectly informed HMRC that I'm working for this company. I contacted HMRC a fortnight ago over the phone, and once again since to ask for an update. As yet HMRC haven't removed this employment and won't give me a timeframe for when the issue will be resolved. I was also told that HMRC don't know who gave them the incorrect information. I find it surprisingly unprofessional that an unknown person can make changes to my HMRC employment record without any investigation, but when I try and correct my own details, they're unable to do anything except tell me the issue will be investigated. Since HMRC don't have a record of who gave them the incorrect information, I thought I'd make my own enquiries to help them out and speed up the process. Were any of you registered with the employment agency RL recruit? I suspect someone from this agency has lied to HMRC following a dispute over holiday pay. If not, have any of you registered with any other employment agencies recently? Thanks -
Identity theft and tax code fraud causing extreme financial hardship
My identity has been stolen and someone's informed HMRC I'm employed by a company I've never heard of (Evaldazzz) and told them I'll be earning 72k this year. I'm aware several other people have been a victim of this fraud. I'm now being taxed at the 40% rate and I'm only on £12 ph, and it's putting me in significant financial hardship. I'm facing homelessness and going hungry. I've managed to speak to HMRC and they've said there's nothing they can do until they've completed an investigation, and they say they're unable to give me a timeframe. I'm still waiting for someone from HMRC to contact me for more details. Howcome someone's able to change my tax code with HMRC without my authorisation, yet HMRC are unable to correct this at my request? Can't I be put on the BR tax code until the investigation is complete? Why do I have to face extreme financial hardship when I'm the victim of fraud, and this is HMRC's mistake?
