What happens if you do write in, you receive a reply that the query has been received and that it might take 6 months for a reply, then after a year and still no reply you call the HMRC hotline and are told that it had been noted in the system that this has breached the deadline for reply and you should receive a reply soon, but then another year passes and no reply has been received? What is the next step to finding out one's liability for national insurance if there appears to be no way to get an answer from HMRC?
