Officers of the United Nations don't pay income tax per Specialized Agencies of the United Nations (Immunities and Privileges) Order 1974 No.1260. Does the expemption also apply to National Insurance contributions?

Hi,
You will need to write to HMRC to request a UK liability decision.
Please include the following information:

•     National Insurance Number
•     date of birth
•     the date youleft the UK - if applicable
•     most recent UK address
•     address abroad – if applicable
•     the type of work you do
•     company name and address – UK and abroad
•     where your contract is held
•     how often you work in the UK
•     normal working pattern (the days, weeks or months they regularly work)
Please send your request to:
PT Operations North East England

Thank you for your reply. What happens if you do write in, you receive a reply that the query has been received and that it might take 6 months for a reply, then after a year and still no reply you call the HMRC hotline and are told that it had been noted in the system that this has breached the deadline for reply and you should receive a reply soon, but then another year passes and no reply has been received? What is the next step to finding out one's liability for national insurance if there appears to be no way to get an answer from HMRC?

Hi tmatija
If you have already written, then we can only provide general advice as the forum doesn’t have access to your records or letters & forms submitted.
We would suggest following the process through the links below regarding any correspondence:
Firstly Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC then
National Insurance: general enquiries
Should you wish to make a complaint after exhausting the options above, please follow the guidance at Complain about HMRC
Thank you
