  • Self Assessment help

I will exceed the tax allowance for savings in the year 24/25 and was looking into Self Assessment online to see what was involved. It would seem I accidently applied for Self Assessment as I have just received the paperwork giving me a UTR which would not be too much of a problem but it is asking for me to do a return for the years 23/24. I have no need to do that, so why is it back dating for the last year. How do I cancel this demand.
  • Tax on savings when retired

I have a state pension and private pension which exceed my personnel allowance. I now have savings that are providing an additional income from building societies and banks. Do I have to do a self assessment for interest received or is the HMRC automatically informed at end of year.
