RE: P800 Tax Due - How to pay
I've got exactly the same issue as Fozboy. Received a letter red 2023-2024 tax year and owe tax. Letter states i can pay online, I think great so logged into Personal Tax account and for 2023-2024 it states the right amount. Puzzling. Called HMRC the guy I spoke to said to make payment online to the following account:- HMRC Shipley Bank Sort code: 083210 Acc No: 12001020 With my NI number as the reference. The amount is nearly £3000, so feels a bit like would end up in a HMRC "black hole". So I spoke to someone I who know is a tax accountant and they strong advised not to do this. I found this forum and Fozboys experience. There I've just called HMRC helpline again, and the guy said to do the following:- Get a cheque payable to "HMRC" for the amount. Write a covering letter including Full Name, NI number, state the amount owed and that its to the under payment of tax owed in 2023-2024 tax year. So I'll do that because it might not fall into some HMRC account black hole. But why can you just not get the system to work properly so I can pay what I owe online? so avoid all this wasted time and frustration to avoid HMRC messing about with my tax code?
