RE: Incorrect National Insurance Number (Customer Service Never Available)
Hi,
You will need to contact our National Insurance team and advise them you have two National Insurance numbers.
Please continue to use the original National Insurance number you have been given with any employers and providing you pass security we can update your information.

RE: Gateway name change
Hi,
You will need to contact our National Insurance (NI) team and pass security and then we can amend your new married name to match your passport and driving license. Once it is changed it can take up to 72 hours to reflect on your records.
National Insurance: general enquiries
We can also add details of the marriage date for an extra security question but please be aware for the marriage to be official on HMRC systems we would need to see sight of the marriage certificate. A certified copy must be signed as a true copy and stamped with a date by a government department, legal organisation or a medical body for example:
In the UK, a solicitors office, doctors surgery or chartered accountants. Outside the UK, a mayor's office or British Consulate
Once it is changed you should be able to access your personal tax account.
Thank you.

RE: U1 Form
Hi,
Unfortunately you are unable to email HMRC regarding your reply. You will need to respond in writing to the address on the letter, alternatively if you have access to your personal tax account you can chat to an advisor on the web chat services or call the international caseworker helpline for any updates.
Please be advised if you call the helpline/web chat services they are unable to take details over the phone when evidence is required to support an application.
You can also re-apply for another U1 with the required documentation needed. Current waiting times for electronic receipts are 1 week to a reply being issued by a personal tax account and 41 weeks for postal receipts to be worked at present.
Thank you. -
RE: U1 Form
Hi Dms,
If you have submitted a U1 form digitally through a personal tax account, the timescales to work the item and then issue a postal reply are currently at 1 week. All U1 forms are issued via postal methods. A U1 reply issued to a UK address once it has been worked can take 15 working days to be received, overseas addresses can potentially take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive due to international post.
If you still have access to your personal tax account, you can chat to an advisor on the web chat services or call the international caseworker helpline for any updates.

RE: What is the relationship between voluntary NI contributions and self-assessment tax return ?
Hi,
If you have left the UK permanently and you have no income at all, please contact our Self Assessment team to ensure it can all be closed.
Self Assessment: general enquiries
For National Insurance due to leaving the UK, you now have the option to pay voluntarily by the NI38 and the CF83 application forms that you have mentioned. You will also need to speak to our National Insurance team to ensure you have told us you have left the UK permanently.
National Insurance: general enquiries
Voluntary National Insurance contributions when you live and work in the UK can be paid to top up your National Insurance. When you leave the UK you can also apply to pay voluntary National Insurance but this is overseas National Insurance. If you have left the UK you must pay voluntary National Insurance from abroad by the CF83 application process.
If you still have access to your personal tax account, you can self serve and inform us of your changes and have the option to use webchat services if you have not informed us already.
Thank you.

RE: Irish social security contributions to top-up UK NI contribution record
Hi,
Regarding your years in the Republic of Ireland for counting to pension purposes to the UK, you will need to discuss this with the International Pension Centre at the Department for Work and Pensions.
The agreement between both countries relate to social security but they will advise you on all aspects. Once you have spoken to them, you do also have the option of completing these years by paying by making voluntary National Insurance contributions that they may also advise you on.
International Pension Centre
Thank you.

RE: When I check progress, I don't see 'CF83' listed, but do see 'online' as received
Hi Sharon2,
The correct option to chose for CF83 applications from an EU country is “EU application (including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway & Switzerland) to pay National Insurance whilst abroad”.
Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC
We are currently working cases received on 13 February 2023, a 41 week timescale. The “you can expect a reply date” on the timescales link attached above is an estimate and may change.
Thank you -
RE: U1 Form
Hi Maura Masi,
If your U1 form has been processed, we issue all replies by postal methods as they are official certificates. Delivery can take 4 to 6 weeks to be received overseas and 1 to 3 weeks if it is to a UK address.
The international caseworker department can advise you of the correspondence issue date and any issues going forward regarding the U1.

Thank you.

RE: Amazon & eBay Seller Accounts
Hi,
Artificial separation could become relevant if you split the business artificially and you did this in order to avoid registration for the one entity or both entities. As both entities will be registered for VAT then there will be no avoidance of registration and of charging VAT. You can see the guidance below;
Statement of Practice 4 (1983)
Please make sure the conditions are still met however, to remain on the flat rate scheme. Please see below:
Eligibility and conditions of the scheme
Thank you.
