  • Wrong Reference Number on Payment

Hi I have just paid mine and my husbands self assessment tax bill by online payment through my bank. However, the reference number is hmrc rather than tax reference number for mine, however its correct for my husband. Both payments have come from the same bank account. Do i need to do anything so that hmrc is aware payment has been made an to be allocated against my account? I don't think the phone line is going to be an option given its 30 January!
  • Help With unused Finance tax Relief

Hi I have messed up with unused tax relief on finance charges. Basically I have never carried forward any unused relief. However despite having not done this, from 17/18 to 20/21 it would not have altered the amount of tax I have to pay, due to the relief negating income tax owing and the adjusted total income figure always coming out the lowest regardless of whether the carried forward figure was applied or not. However in 21/22 this has changed and the finance cost with the carried forward from 20/21 has come out the lowest, not the adjusted total income. I have read https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-to-tax-relief-for-residential-landlords-how-its-worked-out-including-case-studies but still unclear, and have some questions, and hoping it will help anyone else trying to calculate this.... 1)I assume I do not have to resubmit these prior returns given it makes no difference to the amount of tax owed? 2)Can anyone confirm I am now on the right lines -see table below 3)I take it the carry forward figures goes into box 45? 4)I have remortgage costs from 20/21, I have included these in disallowed finance costs (survey and solicitor fess taken as expense in the year) Many thanks for any help Lower Of Allowable Mortgage Allowed Disallowed Finance Property Adjusted Finance Carry Finance Cost Interest Costs Profits Income Relief Forward 17/18 75% £15,233.78 £11,425.34 £3,808.45 £15,233.78 £11,748.34 £248.34 £49.67 £3,560.11 18/19 50% £15,198.79 £7,599.40 £7,599.40 £18,758.90 £18,185.24 £6,335.24 £1,267.05 £4,824.27 19/20 25% £14,725.68 £3,681.42 £11,044.26 £19,549.95 £23,503.99 £11,003.99 £2,200.80 £4,864.54 20/21 0% £14,296.32 £0.00 £14,296.32 £19,160.86 £26,375.00 £13,875.00 £2,775.00 £5,285.86 21/22 0% £12,305.67 £0.00 £12,305.67 £17,591.52 £32,474.94 £19,904.94 £3,518.30 £0.00 Unused Finance Costs 17/18 Residential Finance Costs £3,808.45 Used in Basic Rate Deduction £248.34 Unused Residential Finance Costs c/fwd £3,560.11 18/19 Unused Residential Finance Costs b/fwd £3,560.11 Residential Finance Costs £7,599.40 Used in Basic Rate Deduction £6,335.24 Unused Residential Finance Costs £4,824.27 19/20 Unused Residential Finance Costs b/fwd £4,824.27 Residential Finance Costs £11,044.26 Used in Basic Rate Deduction £11,003.99 Unused Residential Finance Costs £4,864.54 20/21 Unused Residential Finance Costs b/fwd £4,864.54 Residential Finance Costs £14,296.32 Used in Basic Rate Deduction £13,875.00 Unused Residential Finance Costs £5,285.86 21/22 Unused Residential Finance Costs b/fwd £5,285.86 Residential Finance Costs £12,305.67 Used in Basic Rate Deduction £17,591.52 Unused Residential Finance Costs £0.01
