Hi, I just found this forum. We're awaiting probate to clear. My mother passed away in January 2024. Last year, she gave each 3 of us £10,000. At the time, mum had been living with us since lovkdown due to health. we bought a new bed, bed recliner, and other aids to help her. She bought us a new sofa and lawnmower. Any other money went into bills and food. Anyway, due to the £10,000 being over the gift allowance, what will or could happen? They will keep the money and pay the tax from what it should have been. The amount is around £140,000.
