Transfer Child Credit to Partner's National Insurance
Hello, Last year I put in an application to transfer the National Insurance credits my husband had acquired for being in receipt of Child Benefit to my National Insurance record for the 2023-2024 tax year. The request was refused because HMRC said my husband had not made enough income and paid enough NI contributions so they cannot remove them from his account to transfer to mine. My husband is a self-employed higher rate taxpayer and paid several thousand pounds worth of NI contributions for the 2023-2024 year! We were confused and so phoned HMRC to ask what we should do regarding an appeal. The representative told us that self-employed NI contributions for 2023-2024 would not be showing on the HMRC system that would deal with the transfer request and the NI records would be moved over on January 31 so we should just reapply after that deadline. We did this, but we have heard nothing back from HMRC. We wondered if we are being ignored because we are past the 30 day appeal for the first decision (we can't transfer it because your husband--a high tax payer!--didn't make enough NI contributions) has past and we were given wrong advice from the representative that the best course of action would be to reapply after January 31. If so it appears this advice about reapplying might have financial repercussions for my future finances and pension.
