  • RE: Can I report CGT online as an individual?

I had not set-up the account. I was trying to set-up the acount. Your system has a fault that prevents creation of the account. I found the way around this problem by searching this forum and found someone else who had the same problem. Your response is unhelpful and incorrect. I suggest you view the responses to the thread linked below, so that in future when other people have the same problem you will be able to respond more helpfully: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/cgt/380f1545-bfa6-ef11-95f6-000d3a8737b3#post-eec8a440-bfa6-ef11-b8e8-6045bdf20098
  • RE: Declaring and paying CGT on UK property sale

Thanks for posting this. I have had the exact same problem. Your solution, to create a new gateway account worked a treat. Thank-you. This is very obviously a bug in the system. I understand that it can take time to get these things fixed, but as you suggest, it should be pretty straightforward to update the text to say that you cannot use your existing Government Gateway account and must create a new one, if that is what is required.
  • Can I report CGT online as an individual?

I am self-employed with some rental income and have recently sold a property and need to pay CGT. This page: https://www.gov.uk/report-and-pay-your-capital-gains-tax/if-you-sold-a-property-in-the-uk-on-or-after-6-april-2020 says that I can use a 'Capital Gains on UK Property Account' to report and pay capital gains. However, pressing the green button on that page says that the service is only for Trusts. If I answer the question saying that I am not a trust, it says to file a company tax return. but If I follow the links through to do that it says that I am trying to sign in as an organisation. I am not a limited company. Is the only way to report my gain by requesting a paper form? Thanks Phil
