notification of Income (carers allowance) automatic process?
A couple of years ago I claimed carers allowance. This was added to my HMRC tax account record quickly, as income without *me* doing anything. When I stopped claiming carers allowance it was removed, again without *me* doing anything. I assumed this was a prcoess between the carers allowance team and HMRC. My wife started claiming carers allowance 6 months ago but it hasn't yet been added to her HMRC tax record record as income. After my experience I assumed this was an automatic process between Gov Departments? Should she continue to wait for it to appear as an income or does she need to notify HMRC directly herself? We are both on PAYE and dont self access. Thanks you Neil Carr. -

That explains it Thank you -
Pay tax on carers allowance in the month of April.
Claiming carers allowance takes me just into the basic rate tax band. Over the year CA currently works out at £317 a month. When I called HMRC with a query the very helpful advisor advised the full £317 goes towards my tax calculation for the month of April. When I suggested in the month of April 5 days of that should be classed as “ the last tax year” and the remainder “this tax year”, he said that sounded logical but not what his “help sheet” suggested. Although this only adds a small amount of additional tax I would appreciate someone explaining my misunderstanding on this as I like to understand the math? Thank you.
