RE: Marriage Tax Allowance
Thanks for the response. Talk about making a simple thing so complex that it defies understanding! My understanding is that I have had the 10% added to my personal allowance since 2015 and that nothing further needs to be, or can be, done. Thanks, again, D -

Marriage Tax Allowance
I've been benefitting from 10% of my non-tax paying wife's persoal allownce since this was introduced. I've been called by an outfit called the Tax Refund Team who appear to be legit from the Companies House site. They say they can recover tax (for a percentage, of course!) and also assure me that my date of marriage was disclosed to them on an on-line application (the only application was to HMRC). I am intrigued by their suggestion that there is another scheme of which I am unaware and their email yesterday tries to explain: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ " Good day Mr and Mrs ****, its Cindy here from the Tax Refund Team , with regards to your marriage tax allowance refund of £1250 in a cheque. As per our conversation over the phone , Marriage Tax Allowance was established in 2015 and is a tax perk from the HMRC for any married couple or couples in a civil partnership. Marriage Tax Allowance is where the lower earner (non taxpayer) receives the cheque released onto their name and the higher earner receives the tax reduction of £250 each year going forward. Each year the refund is available for £312.50 but because we are a claims management company , we do backdate the claim for the last 4 years which gives the average refund of £1250 , which if successful with the HMRC , you will receive in the form of a cheque. What Mr **** was speaking in regards to was the Married Couples Allowance , which is where the non taxpayer transfers a portion of their allowance to the taxpayer , in order for the taxpayer to pay less tax. Please reply to this email with a suitable time to give a call back to confirm the details that we have for you and get your claim sent off to the HMRC and hopefully get you smiling within the next 4-6 weeks with a cheque in the post :) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am confused by this reference to two versions of what to me seems to be the same thing - can anyone please clarify? David
