Hi,
It can take about 8 weeks for a payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions to be shown on your Personal Tax Account (PTA).
If it does not show on your PTA within the next few days, may I ask that you either call on National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 203 7010 from overseas or write to us with details of your payment.
If you do call then our telephone lines open at 8am and are usually quieter then.
Thank you.

You are suggeating to "write to us with details of your payment". May I please ask what is the address to write to you to? Thank you.

Hi , it's been 17 weeks since I paid my contributions.. I rang as guided above and was told it would be 8 weeks normally to have the information online .. there seems to be a breakdown in information.. it must be an issue with staffing levels that I'm left checking on a constant weekly basis and yet no update .. I would have thought after ringing on the issue I would have been sorted soon after .. Can you fill me in on the latest with the online updates ..Thanks in advance ..

I have paid the 6 years that I was allowed to back pay and then got a letter to pay a 7th amount for the current year ? I paid that more than 3 months ago and it does not appear on my online records?

Hi
Sorry for the delay in allocating your payment of voluntary National Insurance contributions to your account.  If you could again call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 203 7010 (from overseas) they will be able to send a request to the International Teams to ask that they allocate your payment.  If you are close to or over UK State Pension Age then please let the Helpline know.

Hi, I live in Sweden and received a confirmation letter at my Swedish address stating that I am entitled to Class 2 voluntary contributions (which I requested using the CF83 form as required). I made a single payment for 5 years of Class 2 contributions back in June 2024 from my UK account, following the provided instructions. I called as advised and was informed that the payment was received, but it will take some time to update the online records. The payment was made over 6 months ago, and I still don't see any updates under "Your State Pension summary" on the tax service website. My question is: when should I expect to see the contributions registered on my pension summary? Thanks

Hi, I rang the number +44 191 203 7010 at 8am .. and requested to have my contributions added online to my account .. I told them as you said to contact the international team .. They said they could not do that and the waiting time was 50 weeks and the 8 weeks was for UK payments only .. they did confirm that I had made the payments .. I was long enough on the phone that the agent could easily have done it there and then as she had all the information.. .. a year behind ... No intervention.. no acknowledgement of receipt until I ring .. disappointing .. better to let people know the current situation anyway ..

Thanks, Holynoely. I can't believe HMRC couldn't provide such a straightforward answer here instead of making us waste time calling a helpline that takes forever to answer! A 50-week waiting time is just insane and embarrassing—people could die waiting for it to happen!

Additionally, I came across another forum discussion titled "NI voluntary class 2 paid in May 2024, no update yet?" at the following link: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/ni/a8f6daae-095d-ef11-a4e5-002248000ee8 In that discussion, I found this post: > Posted 16 days ago by HMRC Admin 10 > > Hi, > > We are currently dealing with a high volume of voluntary payments. The timescales depend on the circumstances of your payment and the National Insurance class. > > If you paid for an abroad period, it can take up to 29 weeks to allocate the payment to your record. For a domestic Class 2 payment, it can take up to 29 weeks, and for a domestic Class 3 payment, it can take up to 8 weeks (based on the automated system allocating the amounts). > > Domestic Class 3 payments can also be allocated over the phone if you’d like to call us on 0300 200 3500 to do so. However, abroad payments and Class 2 payments take 29 weeks due to the high volume of other payments in the queue needing to be allocated. > > Thank you. > > Post a reply Why was the HMRC agent able to provide this information 16 days ago? Isn't it better to promote self-service rather than divert calls that keep your staff busy with easy and repetitive questions? It's no wonder your backlogs are so huge! Now I wonder if the waiting time is 50 weeks instead of 29 weeks (as mentioned by Holynoely), or perhaps no one at HMRC has a clue, which seems more likely! I live in Sweden and paid Class 2 contributions from a UK account. Is that considered domestic? Please before asking us to call again could you please double check your answer so you are consistent with other agents that are properly responding or at least trying? Best regards,

Hi Luis, I am in exactly the same situation although mine were Class 3. I also live in Sweden and made my initial payment on June 11th. If it is 29 weeks later that would be 31st December. It would be great if someone could answer the real timescale? Not refer us to the online 'How long will it take to get a response which does not have the correct options for this scenario). We are all asking the same question here and it is such a waste of time for the employees (reminds me of the Vogons in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). I will endeavour to write on here when my initial payment from June comes through, otherwise I guess the timescale from June was 50 weeks? (Maybe an official HMRC employee could confirm?) Anyway, just a bit of solidarity here.
