My circumstances are that I live on the Isle of Man and have done for the last 25 years. I previously worked and lived in the UK and am eligible to buy back NI through voluntary contributions. I have been provided with a breakdown of the years I can buy back and also been advised that I can from this point forward pay class 2 NI to build up my UK state pension. Following the chancellors decision to abolish class 2 NI I am wondering where this leaves those that live abroad that are paying class 2. Can you advise please?

Hi rmn0509,
The process of paying class 2 voluntary national insurance in the UK and overseas remains unchanged.
In the autumn 2023 statement for the abolition of class 2, this refers to UK mainland self-employed people only and their reported profits that pay compulsory NI.
Thank you.

Hi, I live and work overseas and requested to pay Class 2 NICs for previous years. I completed the relevant form over 18 months ago, and you asked for more information about 6 months ago. I submitted the extra information and have not received any confirmation about that since. However, I received a letter/form today for Class 2 contributions for the 23/24 tax year. I can only assume that I am eligible to pay previous years at Class 2, but I have not received any information about that. Can you please advise? Thanks.
